Smaller ship and boat prices

Whizbang Dustyboots

Gnometown Hero
My 3E players are looking for a smaller craft than is listed in the SRD, but larger than a rowboat. They want something that could hold about six armed characters and, assuming they're successful in cleaning out a pirate's treasure hidden in a sea cave complex, one or more chests full of booty.

A dinghy or slightly larger boat, preferably with a sail, is what they're looking for.

Any idea on what boats would fit the bill and how much they'd cost? (They're in Freeport, so they should be in decent supply.)

Honestly the best for all-around would be a Pinnace. 4500 GP, it is a 30 footer, with a draft for coast and sea voyages. A complement of 15 medium crew, and a watch of 3. It has decent maneuverability, is cheap, sturdy, and able to carry cargo and provisions without much of a hassle.

Pinnace: Gargantuan vehicle; Seaworthiness +2; Shiphandling +2; Speed wind × 30 ft. or oars 5 ft. (good); Overall
AC 1; Hull sections 4 (sink 1 section); Section hp 50 (hardness 5); Section AC 3; Rigging Sections 2; Rigging hp
60 (hardness 0), AC 1; Ram 3d6; Mounts 2 light; Space
30 ft. by 10 ft.; Height 10 ft. (draft 5 ft.); Complement 15;
Watch 3 plus 8 rowers; Cargo 30 tons (Speed wind × 20 ft.
if 15 tons or more).

Not too shabby eh? And as a 30' foot two-master it can definitely dig in on a haul, and provides for a smoother, easier ride than a cog and much cheaper than most other ships.

Slainte,

Loonook, what's with the stats? What rules are you writing it to? Seems like interesting stuff.

Those are actually direct from Stormwrack, a 3.x supplement, quoted for understanding. The D&D system is pretty robust, though it is missing things I would like to see in print personally.

Hmm, my setting has been all landlubbery for quite a while, so I missed that even though I run 3.5e.

I skipped a lot of the later supplements.
