Smoke Bombs and Infravision/Darkvision

First Post
last session this rogue cast some smokebombs in the heat of battle and another rogue in the group was a Half-Orc with Darkvision (is it darkvison or infravision!???). Now can he see clearly through the smoke? I though it would be reasonable because he can detect heatsources right? But still the smoke should be warm too. Im not sure how this work and it doesnt really say in the PHB or is it something i missed?

Anyone know how to handle this, besides what are the differences between infravison and darkvision or is the no such thing as infravision???

There's no longer any such thing as "infravision" (and good riddance, too; the pseudo-scientific explanation it used caused more problems than it solved). Darkvision is nothing more than the ability to see in the dark without a light source. It doesn't negate concealment due to other reasons, such as obscuring smoke.

They see in the dark. Exactly how that's accomplished is left to "magic"; so no, they don't "see heat" as used to be the case with infravision.

Drakvision

They even very kindly include an illustration in the DMG (pp74-75) that shows what a character with Darksight actually sees. As hong says, it's a HUGE improvement over Infravision, and very conveniently, things that affect normal vision affect darkvision (except of course for the concealment of darkness!).
