I've seen 2 wizards surronded by giants that could deliver a hurting to the fighters and not be in any immediate danger. Let's face it, a spell caster could almost always own a fighter. About the only chance the fighter has would be to use some supplemental magic trick to allow him to engage the wizard. Having plenty of magic items at higher levels allows him to stand a chance.</p><p></p><p>Also, in my experience, the average wealth values tend to actually lower the number of magic items at lower level. In my experience at least, going from 1st to second level usually got you one or two +1 thingies for the group. Now it gets you some alchemist's fire and masterwork stuff.</p></blockquote><p></p>
