I'm looking to write an adventure where the PCs may choose to attempt to sneak out of Wintershiven after it has been sealed by the Inquisition with a former Iuzian spy. Only one gate from the citadel will be open and two Agents of the Inquisition 5th level cleric/4th level Church Inquisitors will question everyone to enter or exit. The walls will be guarded by the Church Militant and city watch--guards will be spaced about 60 feet apart with lanterns and wardogs to sense invisible creatures. The walls are approximately 40 feet high with a 10 foot walkway on the top. The battlements on the outside and the railing on the inside are topped with glass shards to deter climbers. There is a sewer system in the citadel. The location where it empties into the Yol will be observed by a group of Church militant Templars. The prelate of Wintershiven is the PC's sponsor in this adventure--she does not want the inquisition to discover that a spy infiltrated the church in her city (infiltrated her administration in fact). She is also unwilling to help or allow the PCs to murder innocent Templars, watchmen, or Inquisitors to further her political aims. Given that information and the knowledge that Iuzian assassins are attempting to kill the spy and the inquisition is about one day from discovering his identity, what methods would you attempt (assume 6 characters between 4th and 8th level) to get him out of the city. Also, in addition to the precautions I have listed, what actions would you expect the Inquisition to take in order to track down this spy. The Inquisition forces in the city are one Cleric 5/Church Inquisitor 7 and five cleric 5/Church Inquisitor 4s. The Inquisition legally has control of the city and most of the Prelatal Army, City Patrol, and especially the Chruch Militant is unswervingly loyal to their orders (which currently come from the Inquisition). Other forces in the city may be wildcards in this equation. The Arcanist's guild is not generally sympathetic to the Inquisition (although some of its members are) but its political position is precarious so it can't afford to oppose them either. The Bishop of Wintershiven favors the Prelate politically but would be understandably concerned about a spy in the city and would probably aid the Inquisition in catching him (if only to make the Inquisition go away). Does anyone have other ideas?
