Overall, things are pretty great! My divorce has been final for about four months now. I'm all seetled in to a new apartment (this one with two bedrooms, my daughter has her own room when she's here!). I just got a bonus for my work on a 15-month team project at work. It ended over three months ago, so I had assumed there would only be the heartfelt thanks of the company officers. The cool part is that, since it's a bonus, my ex doesn't get 80% of it! My daughter has been having a great summer and is looking forward to middle school in a few days. I am deeply gratified at how crestfallen she is every time I tell her it's time to go back to her other home across town. I'm in good health and reasonable shape for a guy my age. I have recently gotten a cable internet connection. I am the Captain of my destiny. Sure, things could be better. Though I'm back in my old department I'm working on unrelated projects, so I feel a little disconnected. My mom has begun refusing to take her meds at the nursing home. It would be nice if I wasn't quite so shy. But, when I look at what's important to me in life (the love of my daughter, the companionship of my friends, to love and be loved by a special woman, good health and to laugh and enjoy life), there's only one thing that would substantially increase my happiness. I've almost got it all! How cool is that? I know it sounds hokey, but attitude really does make a difference. After I dropped out of college, I decided to change who I was. I decided to improve myself by taking after what I admired in my friends. That's when I realized that the friends I ALWAYS looked forward to seeing were positive people, and the ones I sometimes tended to avoid were often negative. I decided to experiment in trying to look at things in a positive way, give myself positive messages, and it worked. I became a much more positive person. Happiness isn't a result, it's a choice. A choice we all have open to us. In the end, I've finally reached a point in life where I'm not spending a lot of time worrying about things I can't change. I'm living the truism that the best way to change the world is to change my attitude. Overall, I really like where I am right now and I'm very much looking forward to the future. Have a better one. -Dave
