Best Game: SNES Legend of Zelda. It was a return to the form of the original, but without the annoying knack of not telling you what you were doing or what the story was. The first LoZ was good, but finding out the story, or the direction you were headed, was a third-party experience. Best Moment: This was with Super Mario Bros. 3. I had beaten the game years ago. Fast-foward to college days. By now I'm totally pro with Mario. Mario 3 is a cakewalk. But now you don't play the game just to beat it... you play against your friend, through all the levels, just to see who can rush through and get all the best items. No warping... that's too easy. Anyway, I'm playing with my friend, and he's awesome good at the game too. In fact, better than I. But we're going through, wrecking the levels, and he's been getting lucky and getting all the tanooki and frog suits. We finally get the sixth world, Ice World. There's our chance to get that Hammer suit after level 5. We're now taunting each other over this suit. This is the pivotal suit. Sure, you can grab one later in world 7... but that's not our concern right now. We want the Hammer suit now. I'd lost the other suits too often. I needed this one. The problem... whoever beats level 5 doesn't get the suit. The second problem... I can't just ignore the level because my friend had a Lakitu Cloud... meaning he could skip the board and go straight to the house.... I had to put him down. The Result: Of course, my friend attempted the cloud skip first. I was one "section" away from the level... effectively blocking off any other route to the world. He had to go past me. In SMB3, you can tap the A button when it isn't your turn to effectively "battle" him. So he goes for it with the cloud. I had to time it just right and get him. BAM! I stop his first attempt. We battle. I win. Next is my turn... but now I have to beat the level. So, being a man, I go in. I finish it. But now it's his turn again. I have to stop him again for this suit. BAM! I get him again (he tries his hardest to move back and forth, to break my timing on catching him). We battle. It comes real close, but I win. Ah... sweet victory, that suit was mine. Of course, the Hammer Suit is extremely worthless in that game, and he ended up doing the honors of finishing the last level. But that one moment was worth the whole trip.
