First time I went in a few years. The good:

They had this dude called the "chime master" or something playing a bunch of bells, which sounds corny, but looked and sounded really cool.
I bought my buddy a discounted ticket, so he bought me beer all day.
It really tired out my one year old, which meant she slept through the night.
The bad:

The joust sucked. It was about 10 minutes long, and it's sad to say, but they have a better show at Medieval Times.
They got rid of the torture chamber.
They got rid of the weapon tent (more on this later).
I saw way too many people dressed in the wrong costumes (more on this later).
Weapons Tent: The last time I went to a Ren Faire was about 3 or 4 years ago. The weapons tent was a place you paid like $2 or $3 to get into, and they showed you a bunch of neat weapons, and passed them around for people to get a feel for them. Well, last time I went, they passed a greatsword to a a bit slow (I don't want to offend anybody, but this is an important part of the story). I don't think he was expecting such a heavy object, and the sword came down in an arch and hit the guy putting on the show on the side of the head. Everybody was ok, but I'm sure the "weapons master" had a lump for a while. Wrong Costumes: Okay, I get that some people really get into the Ren Faire and either have their own costumes, or they rent them there. My theory is, either go all out and play the part, or go in regular clothes and enjoy yourself. You can't really go wrong unless you go inbetween or get something out of a completely different genre. I also "get" the whole fantasy thing (pointy ears, faerie wings, ect.). Anyway, I saw a lot of guys with swords, ladies with too much skin showing (who definitely should not be showing their skin), a few ladies with a lot of skin showing that looked good, and a couple of visitors from a far away land (Samurai and such). All good here. Then, the bad: I saw a guy wearing a 12 year olds hallowe'en knight costume (plastic armor). I saw a guy wearing robes with vines all over himself (was he going for Swamp Thing, or a Druid?). I saw a kid walking around dressed as an eagle (it was a great costume, I was just confused). The one that takes the cake was a dude wearing all black, with a black hooded cloak and a sword slung across his back (we're good so far). He also had a lightsaber on his belt and a Darth Vader mask. I just don't get it. Oh yeah, only one person, the whole day, took note of my Monty Python tee shirt with the French Knight saying "I FART IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION". Oh well, at least I got free beer.
