respectfully, the Original post was just about dwarf wizards being awesome. And i feel like everyone has gotten off on their tangent. Like multiple people have posted about high lvl play... that come the higher levels you will be outmatched by the most syncronous raceclasscombo in the game...and first of all...DUh. Yes everyone knows the "I eat and pee magic" race is going to be a better wizard . 2nd of all this game is more than just high lvl play. from what i understand most players are lucky to have a single campaign last more than once session, certainly my group was that way. I myself came here looking because the local game store is doing a 1 shot game that just happens to be on a day i never have off, that i happen to have off this next week for some reason. I was hoping to see people coming up with tips to how to make it work, some of the best spells and customization options but its 50% "yea but at lvl 20 you will be like...slightly weaker " Furthermore there seems to be a complete lack of DM awareness and player versatility awareness. Like "why go in melee when you can just sit back and hurl spells"...Well first of all at lvl 1 i get 2 first lvl spells, which means i need to save them for when we are desperate. and 2 monsters want to kill me and might enter melee range. 3rd I dont like the idea of wasting 1/2 or even 1/3 of my only real magic when i could just...wear armor...for like a 1 time payment of 20 gold or whatever? and then there is the idea that player or DM behavior will result in having fights where you didnt get a short rest or long rest first. so it would be nice to be able to have something you can fallback on. Are we a group that rolls wizards that dont have a bow, or a dagger or something? we just sit and twiddle our thumbs when we cant cast magic for the 20 or so reasons the DMG gives DMs a way to keep you from casting magic? cmon people instead of wasting so much time saying why you dont like it talk about ways to support it. add to the discussion, dont detract from it
