Yep. Plenty of people out there still playing old versions. Fewer all the time, but who are we to tell them they may only have fun by playing under the rules WE prefer? Only a jerk would say such a thing. So, next time you're called a "3tard" for playing under the rules you prefer, recite the above paragraph. Just as only a jerk would insist you're a wanker for playing the OLD rules, only a jerk would insist you're a wanker for playing the newest rules.Well you can also respond to such a loser by pointing out that it's NOT a competition between versions as such. If there EVER was a competition it was when 3E went on sale and 2E and ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS WERE SUMMARILY DISCONTINUED WITHOUT THE BAT OF AN EYELASH. Game over. 3E wins by default. 3E continues to prove it's success and superiority by winning over converts from the older rules, bringing in new players, and bringing BACK players who had left the game. There most definitely is NOT a wave of players abandoning 3E for the "old ways". That is one demographic that is only getting smaller as time goes on. If you're a "3tard" then the person who called you that is clearly a Luddite.Uh huh. What is he, an Investigative Reporter? Does he think he's Geraldo Rivera? "Undisclosed, inside sources say..." There's a reason a good investigative reporter CORROBORATES that kind of information. Because, without corroboration it is readily dismissed as bunk and hokum. There is only ONE reason why rumors about a 4th edition continue to circulate and be taken seriously without good reason. The 3.5 rules. When 3.5 was released there were (and still are) a lot of people who just be-atched and moaned like the world was ending because they were being FORCED to buy new books. It was an argument that didn't hold up for buying and playing 3E and it didn't hold a drop more water against 3.5. Lots of people still play 3.0, not 3.5. Lots of people still play 2E and 1E and even OD&D, and so on. It wasn't long after the whole 3.5 hullaballoo ended that the 4.0 rumors began. But the same people who complained long and loud about 3.5 seem to me to be the same people insiting that there is a secret 4.0 initiative underway at WotC - a conspiracy directed squarely at themselves. I don't actually have this kind of problem, but then my gaming group is fairly insular. But I'd LOVE to meet this loser just to politely debate the finer points of his delusions. Oh boy would I ever. :) I'm a 25+ year veteran of the game and also gettin' awfully crochety in my old age. I take a kind of sad pleasure from seeing young pipqueaks and loudmouth punks (even if they're just fanboy punks) get their comeuppance. :) Just let 'em TRY and call me a 3tard.
