D&D 4E So, which class will end up being the -Zilla of 4e?

In 3e, cleric was, according tomany players unabalanced. Now I personally don't think so, (at least not the core 3e cleric) but to many it was.

Which class do you think is going to be the most uber in 4e core (i.e phb only)?

IMO magic users will always hold the edge. I think the per day abilities of magic users are still going to own, but since they are per day they will be toned down somewhat. (though I am sure there will be feats that allow multiple uses of a per day ability)

Overall though, I think from what we have seen the ranger will end up being a little overpowered compared to the other martial classes. Thing is, they took away spellcasting so i think they will go a little too overboard on the other end, and the ranger will end up dealing more damage overall, per turn, than other martial classes. While this is probably the idea, ranger being a striker and all, i think they will go a little to far with it.

I agree on the cleric issue. They went to so many lengths to make them fun and viable post-1E and 2E that they made them walking gods at higher levels.

Say it with me. Bard-Zilla

No other class has such a rich history of uselessness, and so much to prove. Thus are the seeds of overcompensation planted in the dawning of the new edition.

Or they could just be lame again. Either way works.

Warlordzilla. Since its brand new, they'll overpower it to get people to play them. We'll probably find out that the synergy of having more than one in a group causes them to break the game.

I hope it will be the rogue. It's the rogues turn to really shine. Rogues are fun to play, attracts entertaining players, but has always lacked oumph. See, one class must be the best. It might just as well be the rogue. Give the rogue just a smidgen of [control] and it will rule!

And we have a winner.

Tiefling warlocks will rule 4e.

With all the monsters being sent to Hell by tiefling warlocks, Asmodeus will decide to open the Hells up to further develment, resulting in a booming tourist industry.

I'm hoping that all classes will be completely balanced in 4e and there will be no one class that outshines them all.

No, wait. I can't even say that with a straight face.

Agree about the cleric, though. My 18th level cleric of Lathander (spontaneous Good and Sun domains) runs the table in our Age of Worms game - even when there are no undead in sight. Whoever thought incense of meditation was a good idea for a magic item should be taken the wood shed. But not before I finish breaking every encounter in the adventure path!
