Message: <blockquote data-quote="WizarDru" data-source="post: 460399" data-attributes="member: 151">Not an Atari 2600, he doesn't.  You misunderstand me, I think.  My point was that whenever I remember fondly those experiences and try to recreate them, it becomes apparent that I, personally, don't enjoy them as much now as I did then, and that part of that is nostalgia, and the fact that I've changed and the technology has moved on.  Combat has not gotten worse, or is any different from when I experienced it.  Neither is pong.  But in the world of Warcraft 3, Unreal Tournament 2K3 and even Atomica, for pity's sake, Pong just ain't cutting it for me, any more.The same applies, in a different thread, to 1st edition, for me, personally.  It's not a bad system...but I've become used to RPGs with skills, for example, and consistent mechanics.  I left 1e for GURPS many years ago because I liked the balance and verisimilitude.  I enjoyed the freedom of options.  I returned to 3E for that same reason.  1e has not changed, I have.  What I want from a game, 1e no longer can provide.  Some people still enjoy the system as it was, or with their particular selection of house rules.  I'm glad for that.  I welcome them here to provide their perspective on things.  I just would like all of them (as opposed to almost all of them, I should point out) to be a little less confrontative about their gaming choice.  Coming in the door and telling me my game of choice makes me a '3tard' is just plain rude, IMHO, regardless of how tongue-in-cheek the reference was intended.</blockquote>
