So you've played a ghoul, have you?

It's been mentioned a few times on these boards that because ghouls are intelligent creatures, it's possible to play one as a character. My question is this:

In that a ghast is basically the same thing as a ghoul (but stenchier!), is the only thing that prevents a player from choosing a ghast the uncontrollable/harmful stench? I mean, how could a ghast function within a party of persons with noses?

I guess what I want to know is this......

Are there any magic items out there that make the incorporation of a ghast into the party a viable option? For instance, some sort of Cloak of Stench Localization (i.e., the wearer's harmful odors are kept to the wearer while the cloak is worn.......obviously!).

Has anyone ever tried this? And by "this" I mean "having a ghast in one's party"?

Wait a minute! Warforged haven't any noses, correct?:]

I think Keith claimed that warforged have all the senses of their meatier adventuring companions. They are immune to the sickened condition though so that should work.

My reading of the ghoul monster class in LM is that players are pretty much stuck turning their ghouls into ghasts before they can pick other classes, so this is a problem ghoul players will have to face inevitably anyway. (Personally, I'd make the last level or two of the class, when the ghoul turns into a ghast, optional, but RAW seem to say otherwise.)

Thanks!

Oh, I see!

So.......how does one become a ghast and not cause wretching and nausea to one's non-ghast (or ghoul) comrades?

I'd say you don't, stench is a defining trait of the ghast and shouldn't be easy to overcome

personally I'd say just stick with true ghoul and add class levels without ever going to stenchmeister.

Ghouls make great characters especially if you use point buy (and Con as a dump stat!). My Ghoul Psychic Warrior made a great gladiator
