Software category?

Since the ENnies are trying to broaden their scope, could we have a specific software award category? You could have the mappers, chargens, various tools, etc, in this category.

I don't see how the Ennies could NOT have a software category.

RPGAttitude's: Evolution
Fantasy Grounds II
RPTools MapTool
Battlegrounds Games: RPG Edition

To name just a few software apps scheduled for release this year, or at the least, reaching major milestones in their development.

Same answer we give every year is this: IF we get enough software entries, sure.

RPGAttitude's: Evolution
Fantasy Grounds II
RPTools MapTool
Battlegrounds Games: RPG Edition

At least one of those developers has declared, based on last year's results, they'll never even visit EN World again, let alone enter. :)

Yeah, I know, but I am hoping we can talk him into submitting his application for consideration. :\

I believe there is no hard and fast rule, but there have to be MORE than 5 releases to judge, because the 5 nominations have to be award-worthy products according to the judges.

If there were 5 entries, and the judges only deemed that 2 were award-worthy, then the category would not come into existance.

Mind you, this is coming from someone who just gets to listen to ENnies talk day in and out.

Hound has it right. In years past we've liked to have from 8 to 10 products in a category. Each year the only reason we don't have a software category is we don't get enough submitted.

It seems, in my limited view, that with the 'unless we get 8-10 products' mindset, software will never get it's due at the Ennies. How often are you going to get 8-10 rpg-related software applicants ever, much less every year? However, if/when WotC decides to publish their virtual tabletop, I suspect that app will find itself in a category or two for Ennie-lovin'...just a speculation/opinion I am postulating.

It can get its due, I have some ideas, but they have to wait until we get a panel of Judges.
