Could someone please provide a summary of the best rpg software around?

So far I have tried dm genie and roleplaying master, they seem ok. I haven't tried etools because i hear they wont be updated anymore, is this true?

Also what about software for other rpg systems like white wolf rpgs and so on...

Thanks in advance

Official datasets for character generation software is no longer for sale for PCGen and E:Tools.
Official datasets for WotC products is no longer available. CMP and PCGen both have relations with other publishers to create/distribute datasets based upon their products.

Definitely go check out Hero Lab at www.wolflair.com. It's a brand new character creation tool from the company that does Army Builder and Card Vault (great tools for miniatures and CCGs, respectively). They started with d20 support and they'll be announcing a list of other game systems to be supported under license in January, so maybe the list will include the storyteller stuff.

There's a free demo verison of the product available on their website, plus lots of screenshots (since another poster asked about that).

Thanks for the mention, Labyrinth. As mentioned, there's a free demo on our site, so all are invited to take us for a test drive. Here's some of the most exciting features in Hero Lab:

• Intuitive, easy-to-use interface clearly presents all character information, so every ability and option is easily tracked and adjusted
• Adaptive summary panels keep all pertinent information plainly in view
• Dynamic, real-time adjustments are automatically applied for all inter-related statistics and options when relevant changes are made
• Rules validation system warns of potential conflicts with the most current version of the rules, allowing corrections to be made or the rules to be ignored (supporting house rules)
• Journalling system lets players add their own game notes both during and after play
• In-play mode supports temporary adjustments and reference to in-game statistics
• Advanced filtering mechanisms enable quick access to whatever content you seek
• Outputs game-ready character sheets to the printer or PDF format
• Data files published periodically with additional information from the newest releases (may be sold separately)
• One tool supports virtually every game system in a consistent, intuitive fashion

We will be making some announcements within the next few weeks about games that Hero Lab will support, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.
