Solo gestalt PC

I know that, using the gestalt character variant in Unearthed Arcana, that a party is effectively 2 levels higher than a normal one. But, how does just one gestalt PC measure up? Is it possible for him to succeed?

Thnx in advance

Sure, he could succeed. Level 1 character, 2 more virtual levels, for a total of ~ECL 3. He's 1/4 of a party, so we'll divide and find the party level = 3/4. So, the character should theoretically be able to take on an EL 3/4 challenge as a standard encounter. In practice, though, I haven't the slightest. If he's gestalting a melee class with something else (preferably something able to cure itself, even if it's just able to use a wand) he should be okay.

I think it comes down to the DM. The DM has to have a campaign that would allow for the single gestalt character succeed.

If I had only 1 player, I'd go with Cleric/Fighter gestalt. Everything is pretty covered that way. Great in melee with cure spells to boot. Even traps could be discovered (find traps) and bypassed (select the travel domain) with the right spells (though not as easily as if you had a rogue).

"Open Lock" would be accomplished with "Mr. Greataxe"... :)
