It's amazing how the same relatively small company can make such good and really really bad stuff at the same time.

I just got "In search of adventure" and read through the first adventure. Let's just say that they need a good editor who knows 4e. Or whoever's job it is to correct glaring crunch mistakes or 3e'isms. Because frankly, I was very disappointed.

On the other hand, stuff like their Heroes Handbook: The Dragonborn was awesome. So let's hope for more of that sort.

In search of adventure is out? I can live with some editing problems if the adventures are sound.

You should mention the editing issues on their boards the guys would appreciate the feedback.

I am not sure editing is the right word. It's mechanical (crunch) problems and mistakes mostly. And I found it on RPGnow on PDF.

Cheers

Okay. Re-reading it, I guess several of my issues with the module can come down to preferences. Anyway, this is what I found on a readthrough. The worst offenders are the potions, the 3e'isms, and the two main opponents being pretty off what they should be.

  • 2-7 is listed as an EL5 on page 2 in the Encounter Table, but, but since he is a level 4 solo, he should be an EL4.
  • The Abattoir wolves attack (according to the tactic section) heroes who strongly radiate good alignment. This is a 3e’ism, there is no such thing in 4e. (page 7)
  • The Abattoir Breath is a close burst. Normally, breath weapons are supposed to be Blast X (page 7)
  • Potions of vitality? As in the level 15 ones? (page 8)
  • Stench of Decay: -5 to hit on an aura? That’s pretty mean for a level 1 aura. (page 9)
  • I do not think anyone will get by the elite drake fang swarms. They are already the most broken low-level monster, and you managed to make it even more broken. (page 11)
  • Senna has way too few HP. She should have around 140, not 79. Description of 4 of her powers placed in the middle of the stat block also seem to be missing. (page 14)
  • Kuzgug: Again, hit points are way off. Saving throws should be +5, not +4. Shield of abyssal majesty is listed as a ranged attack, but is an aura? Also, the noxious stench info block is repeated. Consume Soul is weird. I mean, getting two hit points when you have like 230 is not really cool. Besides, which allies are supposed to die so that he can get those 2 hit points? I mean, there are no other monsters in the encounter.

I do however want to point out that I absolutely love the backstory and fluff around the adventure. I will definitely use the idea.
