[QUOTE="S'mon, post: 2322403, member: 463"] I'm glad you like it. :) I simplified slightly - IMC the Archduchy actually has population ca 2.2 million, but the additional 100,000gp income goes to the Overking, the overall ruler of the Overkingdom of Imarr, which is the greatest empire on my gameworld Ea with a population of ca 16 million or so. Population 2 million isn't very big compared to major European medieval states, England immediately post-Black Death might have been as low as 2 million; late medieval France was ca 25 million and fielded ca 25,000 troops at Agincourt in a defensive army (although current historical revisionism puts the total lower). I'd say 40,000 was a reasonable figure for the largest army the Archduchy could field at one place even defensively, I take your point that there would be a similar sized force in reserve. Re Mongols, the Mongali (Mongol) Horde was actually defeated IMC 4 game-years ago for the first time ever (using OD&D War Machine) in about 300 game-years; an invading Mongali force of 116,000 vs the Overkingdom & allies' combined forces of 306,000 at the city of Scorn'el. The Mongali won the first day of fighting - killing tens of thousands - but much of the Overking's force was able to retreat in good order and return next day while the depleted Mongali were besieging the city; eventually the Mongali were ground down by weight of numbers and forced to withdraw.
