Message: <blockquote data-quote="Harlock" data-source="post: 539424" data-attributes="member: 4545">I find it ironic that you agree firstly with the sentiment that Metallica making videos was a negative and then go on to praise the first song they chose to make into a video.  What I miss most about the 80s is the pop punk explosion that occured.  The Descendents and later ALL, Green Day formed up (still have all the first pressings of their EPs and albums on Lookout records in green vinyl, might as well seel out, they did), and bands like NOFX and Bad Religion were wailing away in punk rock oblivion not really caring too much if they got noticed by the suits.  There has always been happy music and there has always been depressing music out there, you just have to know where to look.  Those that have pointed out that this nostalgia takes place in 20 year cycles is exactamundo to quote my favorite icnoic 70's 50s wannabe.  And of course the 90's saw the rise of That 70s show.  And, those that have pointed out that fashions and trends often are not original at all are quite spot on in that observation as well.  Nothing new under the sun I guess.  Of course the pop punk movement of the 80's was a revolt against the trendiness of the New Wave movement and it becoming mainstream rather than alternative.  Check out these lyrics from the Descendents for a clue:"Hey you, new wave, come over here You're the prettiest thing I've seen all year Hey you, new wave, don't turn away Close those pouty lips and listen to what I say Why must you smoke that clove cigarette?
