Song of ICe & Fire RPG?

Does anyone know if there's an RPG (pref D20) based on George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire? I know there's a CCG, but I divested myself of that monkey a long time ago and don't want to go back.

Thanks in advance

There was rules for playing in the Song of Ice and Fire in an issue of.. er.. I think Dragon, a few months back. If not it was Dungeon/Polyhedron.

There is indeed a D20 translation of Song of Fire & Ice coming out, it is being produced by Guardians Of Order. An exerpt from the press release is below...

George R. R. Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire RPG By Guardians Of Order
Guardians Of Order, Inc. announced today that it has reached an agreement with George R. R. Martin to publish a role-playing game line based on Martin's award-winning epic fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The first product release, scheduled to debut in autumn 2003, will explore the characters, setting, and events of the first novel, A Game of Thrones.

Future books will detail Martin's story as it unfolds in A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and the upcoming fourth novel, A Feast of Crows. "Martin has created a masterpiece of fantasy literature with A Song of Ice and Fire and we are looking forward to bringing his world to the gaming table," said Guardians Of Order President, Mark C. MacKinnon. "From the Starks of Winterfell to the Lannisters of Casterly Rock, Martin has created an engaging host of characters and motives that lend themselves perfectly to role-playing. This fall, thousands of fans worldwide can play out their own adventures in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros."

"I'm an old gamer myself, having played RPGs for twenty odd (some very odd) years now," Martin added, "so I'm excited by the prospect of turning my Seven Kingdoms into a game setting. Guardians Of Order has impressed me to no end with the quality of their products, and I'm looking forward to working with them to make this game as good as any on the market."

A Song of Ice and Fire has sold well over one million books and has been translated into numerous languages. The story follows the exploits of the Stark family, sundered and scattered over the Seven Kingdoms, as they battle for justice and their own survival. The Starks and their allies face myriad enemies, in a world of heroic legend and slowly aggrandising magic. Alliances, betrayals, and blood are all part of the game of thrones, where you win or you die. The role-playing game line will start with two main rulebooks — one for the d20 System, and one for the Tri-Stat System. All supplementary books in the line will feature mechanics for both game systems.

That treatment of the world sucked.

They took the Seven Kingdoms and just plain made it D&D.

So against all sense, Stannis Baratheon is a Paladin, with all attendant Paladin powers (despite never having had them in the books) and is LG (despite not having behaved in an LG fashion in the books)...and other such crap.

Basically, despite the world being low-to-no magic, the good folks at the magazine elected to populate it with Clerics, Wizards...really just all the bells and whistles of the D&D world.

It was worse than useless. Nice map though.

I never read it myself, just remember seeing it.

Glad to see it's getting an entire campaign series - hope they do it right. Helluva book series.

It was in issue #307 of Dragon, and I'd have to agree with the other folks who've posted thus far: it wasn't very good. I'd love to see a GURPS worldbook for Westeros, but in lieu of that I'm definitely looking forward to GoO's treatment of the setting.

Magic aside, I don't think Stannis should be a paladin anyways... not quite the right mentality. I always figured him for lawful neutral.

I was pretty "Bwah??" at reading Stannis for a Paladin. I also was a little disturbed at having Melisandre being Evil... I'm sorry, but the absolutes of DND alignment just don't work so well in SoIF and I hope they're not present. Sure, she may be evil, but she's so much more complex than that, that she may in fact be a force of good later in the campaign.

Everyone selfishly contesting for the Iron Throne while Stannis sends men to the Wall.. the struggle between personal behavior in the microcosm of courtly life and personal belief can be thrown to the wind when it's put aside when you're asking "what is good for everyone?" rather than "what is good for me?" and you opt for the former rather than the latter.. and are led by the demons towards it.
