Magister Versatilis A Magister Versatilis is a mage that embraces the many aspects of arcane spellcasting in order to become as versitile as possible. The class appeals to sorcerers dabbling in wizardry, and wizards dabbling in sorcerery. Hit Die: d4 Requirements To qualify to become a Magister Versatilis, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Knowledge(Arcana): 10 ranks. Spellcraft: 10 ranks. Spells: The ability to cast at least 8 different spells as a sorcerer, one of which must be 2nd level or higher, and the ability to prepare those spells from a spellbook as a wizard. Feats: Spell Mastery (any spells the character can cast as a sorcerer). Class Skills The Magister Versatilis’ class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Knowledge (all skills, taken individually) (Int), Profession (Wis), Scry (Int) and Spellcraft (Int). Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. Class Features The following are class features of the Magister Versatilis. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Magister Versatilis gains no weapon or armor proficiencies. Spells per Day/Spells Known: Once at each odd Magister Versatilis level, and twice on even levels, the character gains new spells per day, effective caster level, and spells known, if applicable, as if he had also gained a level in an arcane spell casting class to which he belonged before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (additional metamagic or item creation feats, hit die beyond what he gains as a Magister Versatilis, etc.). Since the character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Magister Versatilis, the player must decide which class to add each additional level to. A Magister Versatilis cannot add more than one level to the same spellcasting class per Magister Versatilis level gained. Familiar: A Magister Versatilis can summon a familiar in exactly the same manner as a sorcerer. Magister Versatilis levels count as Wizard/Sorcerer levels for the purposes of determining the abilities of the character’s familiar. See the sorcerer description and the accompanying Familiars sidebar for details. Swap Spells: A Magister Versatilis adds his spells known as a sorcerer to his wizard spellbook, if he can prepare them from the spellbook. When preparing spells, the Magister Versatilis can swap out spells on his list of sorcerer spells known and replace them with spells of the same level from wizard spells known and availiable, providing the spell is on the sorcerer list. This changes the character’s sorcerer spells known list until this ability is used again. Superior Spontaneity: A Magister Versatilis can convert a prepared spell to a spell of equal level or lower on his sorcerer spells known list. If the spontaneous spell is affected by a metamagic feat, its casting time is either a full round action, or the previous casting time, whichever is longer. This spell is cast in all other ways as a caster of class from which the prepared spell was converted. Improved Spell Mastery: A Magister Versatilis effectivly has the feat Spell Mastery for all spells currently on his list of sorcerer spells known. Sorcerer BAB progression and save progression. Familiar, swap spells, superior spontaneity, and improved spell mastery all at first level. One additional arcane spell casting level on odd levels, 2 on evens. Eldorian Antar edit, added some clarification on wording, and the superior spontaneity ability to facilitate characters that focus on wizardly casting.
