[SORCERERS] Information wanted

Hello, I have some questions.

How does the Monte Cook sorcerer from BoEM2 stand up to the core rules sorcerer, and how does it measure against the wizard? I don't want you to cut-and-paste Monte's content, just tell me how you feel about it. Does it stack up? Is it stronger/weaker in the short term/long term? Do the advantages balance out with the disadvantages?

A friend of mine is about to start a Scarred Lands campaign, and he'd let me play Mr. Cook's alt.sorcerer if I wanted to. If you were going to play this class as a "combat mage," which version would you prefer to play and why?

Thanks!

Salutations,

If you want to be the a magic artillery, then go with the standard sorcerer.

If you want to be useful outside of combat, then go with the alternative sorcerer.

The alternative has a better skill list, but a different spell list- with some spells at higher level then before or gone all together.

The alternative gets a better hit die and a bonus feat in the beginning. That is pretty much the sum of the changes. (I don't recall if saves were changed.)

Good luck!

Monte's Sorcerer gets better hps (d6), more skill points, and doesn't need material components for thier spells.

Instead of components they have to spend Exp. (1/25th the gp cost, min. of 1).

the Spell list is also changed, some spells have been removed, and some moved (Invisibility is now 3rd).

On the surface it looks alot more powerful then the 1st version, but I am not sure how costly the EXP spending on spells is oging to be. Also how is the alternate spell list going to effect things.
