Sorceror WOTC optional rule question

First Post
I have a vague recollection of someone mentioning there had been an optional rule in a dragon magazine or something allowing sorcerors to "upgrade" existing spells as more powerful spells become available.

As I understand it, this optional rule would say that when you reach level 6, if you have Summon Monster II, you could replace it with Summon Monster III, and then pick a second level spell to replace Summon Monster II.

Does anyone know where I could find these optional rules? If it's in dragon magazine, anyone knows which issue?

Thanks.

I think in the psionic issue of Dragon they had sopmething like that for psionics, but I don't recall anything like that for Sorcerers.

A Wish should certainly work.

There really should be a mechanic for how a Sorceror could change spells. It might not be cheap or easy, but it should be possible somehow.

In the FRCS, they mention an NPC (Simbul? Not sure) using a Wish to change her spells known.

Yes, it's the Simbul, she regularly changes her spell reportoire that way.

You could make house rules for other ways to change them (as I have done). You could make it a feat, or even a class feature for sorcerers, say, at 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th level or something.
