Sound Issues

Slumbering in Tsar
Ok, lately my computer's sound has been spiking.

The volume will be at one level and then drop (or spike) to another at random.

Either it's going along at a low volume and suddenly spikes to loud. Or it settles on the loud volume and then drops to soft. And sometimes it goes back and forth at odd intervals.

Any ideas from those that are much more tech savvy than me (which is a very large population)?

Do you have a headset? Try that for a while... if it works fine, it's your speakers. ;)

Failing that, try uninstalling and reinstalling/updating your audio drivers.

If that doesn't work, you might need a new sound card.

I've already updated the drivers - no change. (I fear you may be right about the sound card.)

I'll try the headset - good idea.

Sicne nobody esle asked, does the volume spike when playing the same game/mp3/video? Or does it waver across different games/mp3s/videos. If the latter, your card and drivers are likely just fine -- volume levels tend to vary widely from one file to another and, unless they support volume leveling, there's not much you can do about it short of adjusting and saving the volume settings for each file/game as you play it.

It's the former, unfortunately.
