Sovereign Stone d20 Magic?

I've just read the Sovereign Stone Codex Mysterium. The magic system seems very interesting. But... (there's always a but, isn't there?), there seems to be a lot of downside to spellcasting in Sovereign Stone (Long casting times, Fortitude Saves every round of casting, 5% chance of Botching, Subdual or Actual damage from casting, Lots of Interruptions During Casting), so I was wondering how it works in actual practice.

I'd love any comments by anyone actually using this Spell System in there games.

Anyone?

Hey Doc, there was a long thread discussing the Sovereign Stone magic system a while back. You might want to do a search for it. It was a very interesting discussion.

Anyone care to provide some feedback on what came up in the prevoius thread? I'd be keen to hear how it plays also and navigating back through the boards beyond the last couple of days is pretty much a vain endeavour.

Like a number of people have said, it definetly works in play.

Yes, there seems to be a lot of downsides, if you look at it from a basicly vancian point of view, on paper... long casting times, risk of damage, etc.

But that ignores the fact that you have, essentialy, no limitations on what or how much you cast. At higher levels, you can sling unlimited (essentialy) amounts of lower level spells around. You can put a sorcerer to shame in pure spells-per-day, if you wanted to. And even a fairly low level character can try to cast a spell that is "out of his range", if he is willing to risk it. The subdual damage (Or real, if your dumb enough or desperate enough to use void magic) is the only limiter... no spell slots, no "psi points", etc.

Doh! Thanks for pointing out the obvious to me (do a search of the boards). Sometimes I need someone to *thunk* me between the eyes in order to get my brain to roling again!

For Inez Hull and those others who might be interested, the thread Falcon is talking about is: http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7136

Nifty discussion, that was. I'm gonna use SS magic in my next campaign if the players don't hoot and holler too much. :P
