Mars Station Review.
Mar Station is a Terrain Set targeted for the Rezolution DT players. Yet this set has great potential for any modern, near future or future type game. The set comes with Mars style terrain tiles with no grid, 1" grid and 1.5" Grids. I personally use the no grids for all my games, just because they look cool just sitting there with no mini’s or game on them. One of the biggest features of this set is the ability to create canyon walls and other natural obstacles for the your game. There is even tiles to make some sort of landing pad but no flying vehicle. The set does not come with a particular building per se, but does come with walls of various lengths, both interior and exterior walls. There is a vehicle called a crawler with the option of having a closed or open back. There are futuristic road signs, storage tanks, barrier walls, and other odds and ends to fill out the landscape that would be a Mars Station.
The textures for the terrain tiles are awesome. There are different types of tiles for just the Martian soil. Some with different types of tracks (from the Martian Crawler mentioned above) and some without, one with a track in a T-shape. The tiles are to well detailed that they could be used as a Burning Marshes in Warmachine (which is one use I have for them).
The canyon walls templates come in different sizes and varieties and they can be further modified to create unique shapes so that your entire canyon set up can be unique. With a little imagination and some cutting here and there, very unique rock structures can be created. With the ability to create several sets of canyon terrain, each setup can be different.
The textures for the floors and walls to create the buildings are very well done with lots of rust and red sand to make them really look weathered. I recently watched The Fifth Element and the small apartment that Bruce Willis’ character had looks very similar to the interior walls of the Mars Station Set. There are two wall types of varying length in the Mars Station Set. Those that for sectioning off internal rooms and those that are for the exterior. There are several floor tiles to use and all are exceptionally rendered. These too double as roof and ceiling tiles as necessary. All the walls and floors are clearly futuristic, but after building a few buildings, I came to realize that they can be used for Modern games as well. I use a Mars Station building as a Disco on my Mayhem setup. The building looks awesome next to the Hollywood Flat, being a sort of “techno” look against the older style architecture. So the set has many more uses that just for Rezolution. I could very well see this set being used for any near future or SCI-FI game such as D20 Future or Gamma World.
The tech items that come with Mars Station are awesome. The only drawback, not enough goodies. There’s tons o’ goodies, but I’d like to see a Mars Station add on or Bit’s pack where there’s a lot more tech added and maybe some more items like a communications tower that is 6-9" tall after being build and can old a mini or two at the top. But other than that it is the most awesome set.
I highly recommend this set to anyone who wants highly detailed textures and 3D terrain for their science fiction, near future or modern games. This set is awesome and one of the most versatile sets in the World Works Games arsenal of terrain.
