I'm working on developing my game world-setting of Orea as an independent fantasy RPG system. Organizing and presenting things (as I think would be best for the upcoming 5e, incidently as well as borrowing from some development of theirs). ANYwho, the character structure involves" Class, Race, Specialty (which I'm heavily considering changing back to "Themes" or some other less cumbersome word) and Skills, which includes selecting individual skills or using your Skill Points to boost the skills allotted by your class and/or Specialty. The Specialties are separated by class category: Warrior, Rogue, Priest and Wizard with a 5th "General" specialties that are available for anyone. There are 10 Warrior, 7 for Rogue +3 Warrior options (10 total), 4 for Priest + 3 Warrior and 3 Wizard options (10 total), and 5 Wizard (cuz, well, I figure the mages already have enough going on at low levels with their spells n' stuff. So for the "Basic/Beginner/Adventurers" set, 5 is enough to start.) The General list (that any class could take) is hovering around at 9...which just bugs me, 10 is better. But I'm having difficulty deciding on a 10th. Currently, the break up includes 5 non-magical specialties and 4 that are magical in nature (offering spells or various powers), so the symmetry seems to demand a 5th magically oriented one, but at the same time...I kinda would rather a non-magical option...just can't think of one that makes a decent specialty. Cavalier/Knight, Mercenary and Swashbuckler are already sample archetypes under Fighter. "Barbarian" is a class of a specific cultural warrior and "Berserker" is already on the General List. Acrobat is already a Rogue specialty. Thief, Thug, and Sniper already a sampled archetypes for Rogues but not "specialties" per se, just detailed through their skills and weapon selections. The General Specialties List currently includes: -Arcane Dabbler (specifically for those who want spellcasting rangers or more arcane bards, rogues with a lil' extra something or "swordmage-lite") -Assassin (non-magical variety: extra stealth, poison, garrote attack, disguise and gather information skills built in) -Beastmaster (specifically for rangers and druids who want animal companions, or anyone else who wants a non-magical pet) -Berserker (rager guy, you know the kind. It's an optional addition to the above "Barbarian" class. But any class could be one. I had this idea for a Paladin that takes Berserker...rages up in this insane religious fervor. Clerical zealots, etc... ;) -Bounty Hunter (a nice fighter, rogue or ranger specialty but then figured, a mage-bounty hunter would be...well, cooler than Boba Fett! A druid bounty hunter going after particular targets who have wronged the woods. Works for any class. -Warlord (I'm an inspirational leader!:p Listen to me and reap the benefits.) I thought, maybe "Trickster" for some Illusionist magic, but seem redundant with the Arcane Dabbler. Given a Psychic class in the make up, I could probably have another psychically advantageous...but what? Fortuneteller? meh. So I'm having a tough time coming up with another fightery and/or roguey type. Suggestions? --SD
