Speech

I'm currently taking a speech class and have decided to do my informative speech on D&D. My plan is not to try and go over the rules with the class (as I only have 6-8 minutes for the speech), but instead give a general overview of D&D, mainly as a game, but with a quick look at the brand name as well.
Has anyone done anything similar and how did you go about it? And are there any other ideas from anyone on points they would try to hit on? Thanks.

I did that exact same thing in college. This would have been circa ~92ish.

I passed around a set of dice so everyone could see the kinds of die used, and I think I even passed around a sample character sheet.

I ended up getting bad comments from the instructor on the last part - since he said the objects detracted focus away from the speech.

But, you could bring a set of dice to show people - if you have the really big ones, that's a bonus, as they'll be easier to see.

I'd touch on how the game is played much like "cowboys and Indians" or any sort of childhood role-playing game - just more codified. You can describe the games origins and how it is played.
