Speed in armor

[Creeping Death]

Creature with a base speed of 20 wears heavy armor and its speed is reduced to 15.
Creature with a base speed of 30 wears heavy armor and tis speed is reduced to 20.

If a creature has a base speed of 40, what is its speed reduced to when wearing heavy armor?

Its speed is 30.

The info for all base speeds from 20 to 100 when reduced by armor/encumbrance is on pg. 20 of the DMG. I also use the speed info for mounts on pg. 131 of the PHB for quick reference.

Probably true. The weight of platemail is much better distributed than chainmail is.

Historicaly, that statement is very accurate. With chainmail, the weight is all on the shoulders and hips. In plate, eacxh idividual peice is connected to an individual body part (and eachother.)

The Carrying Loads table can be used given "A medium or heavy load counts as medium or heavy armor for the purpose of abilities or skills that are restricted by armor."
