Spell-attuned PrC (ala Swiftblade)

Prestige Classs: Swiftblade

WoTC have produced a prestige class so attuned to a spell (in this case, haste) that the PC receives a number of haste inspired benefits (better quickened spells, a residue of haste meaning you move faster, etc).

The idea behind this PrC - bonded so totally with a spell so it changes you and grants you other benefits, is quite intriguing.

So, are there any spells you would like to be able to bond with (either for a wierd and wonderful character, flavour or pure power?). What would the benefits be?

This isn't exactly new when you think about it. There was a Missile Mage in Dragon tuned to Magic Missile. Then there's that Seven Fold Veil guy that uses prismatic spells. Master of the Unseen Hand and telekinesis spells. This has been done a fair bit. Cool idea IMO.

I wouldn't mind getting behind a teleportation mage - sort of a Nightcrawler idea. Or perhaps a charm based mage.

Hadn't seen the MM guy. Whilst I've seen others that specialise in types of magic (prismatic, force, TK), I don't think I've seen one so intrinsicly bound to a particular spell.

The nearest is the mindbender? with charm/dominate abilities.

Yeah, the teleport one would be cool, can see permanent blink affect for that one. Probably combine better with a rogue than the warrior-esque nature of the swiftblade.

Have you checked out this little gem in the prerequisites?

Special: The candidate must have spent the entire previous level using all 3rd level or higher spell slots to exclusively cast haste.
Not a good PrC for someone who already has several effective arcane spellcaster levels. :p

Now that is a real prerequisite. I'd love to see more of the same.

Especially a 10th level caster trying to get in. All 3rd, 4th and 5th level spells are haste, all day all the time. Beautiful!!

Gotta admit though, that's a GREAT prereq. Bleeds flavour and, if the player REALLY wants the PrC, he's gotta earn it. I think I might yoink that for other PrC's as well.

There is still a slight way round it.
Reserve feats and never cast the spell you held in reserve.
Technically you've not actually cast the spell slot.

If you want this prestige, get in early!

Generally, I'm not too big on arcane casters or their PrC's (except for the bladesinger because of 2nd edition nostalgia for my favorite character of that era) but this one really makes me want to give an arcane caster a try.

A Sorcerer 6, Abjurant Champion 5 Swiftblade 9 sounds like a cool L20 combo for an Elf Ftr/Mage type --

bab 15, 17 caster levels good HP and abilities and best of all not to slow to develop.

Its a bit feat heavy but you can't have everything and none of the feats are suck incarnate.

I know I'd want Improved Initiative though -- I'd be GO FIRST GUY basically -- have a good dex, a good charisma and a god awful initiative bonus -- around +18 or so yowza!
