Recap / Scene Framing Post A betting man would call it 3 o'clock in the morning, the cloudy night sky made it particularly dark. Barrington, like a guardian angel with a steel-eyed musket, fades back into the jungle, trudging down the slope. The Spanish sniper whose perch he ambushed had two shots in him but was still alive somewhere, having fled into the dark jungle along with the rest of the pirates. Who sent them? Barrington remembered well the rumors that Captain Read Wallace, the man he was to meet at daybreak, had it in for Captain Katerina del Corazón for unknown reasons. These pirates seemed a bit too savage to serve a privateer, however. From the sound of the leader's bravado and bluster, the one called D'avard had some personal stake with du Tourbillon. Could this all be connected to that enigmatic French financier? After all, they all remembered D'avard's threatening words exchanged with Katerina: "The Tengu King has a way with spirits. Cap'n has plans for the spirit haunting The Coral Curse. Cap'n won't have du Tourbillon getting to the ship ahead of him." Barrington reaches the Stuffed Swan inn and slips back into the room where he left Prydwen sleeping (also known as Molly the barmaid). She stirs softly, welcome him back in with a kiss and a murmur. Three hours of shut eye and then Barrington's destiny awaited him at the Nassau docks. Meanwhile, the rest of you are certain the threat has ended. Shattered glass, splintered wood, a broken door, and multiple bullet holes. Caillou's house-on-the-hill has been shot to hell by the pirates, one of which lies slumped dead against the wall. The leader of the band, the massive muscled tattooed corsair D'avard lies unconscious. Nia Steeleyes finishes binding his hands and feet; of course, given that the man is a seawolf possessed of unearthly strength, a good pair of manacles would be more appropriate. Along with your effective strategies and overwhelming spell onslaught, duTourbillon's magical message to Katerina helped you win the day. He also had insisted you come to see him at the Colonial Hotel post haste. How did D'avard find the Tengu King's house? Who was D'avard's captain? What did he want with the Tengu King? And why were they after the djab (dark spirit) haunting The Coral Curse? Answers might come from questioning D'avard. He would regain consciousness on his own in about an hour, or if one of you skilled in medical knowledge were to apply smelling salts. Should you desire to carry him down the hillside, the man weighs about 210 pounds. Daybreak is around 6 o'clock.
