Spell Failure for Darkwood buckler/shield

Bozidar

First Post
I'm posting this on behalf of my DM. In the DMG there is aparantly a darkwood shield which is a favorite of rogues and wizards. It explains the armor check penalty, but doesn't list the spell failure for those darkwood items. Does anyone know what they are/would be?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer :)

It's the same as the base item. Darkwood items simply weigh half as much and are considered masterwork items, though shields get a greater reduction in their armor check penalty. The masterwork quality does not chage the spell failure chance of armor.

my DM wanted me to say..

Yeah, we knew that masterwork didn't reduce the spell-failure of the shield, but why would they list the Darkwood stuff as a favorite of wizards if it didn't reduce the spell failure? what's the difference to them?

Is it because they're usually weak, and it's less encumberance for them?

"page 283 in the DMG?...i am almost positive that it is in the description of the darkwood buckler, dont know the page though" -- from my DM

It's not in the description of the darkwood material (which is what I thougt you were referring too, but I did find it on page 221, the darkwood buckler...and yes, they're referring to the fact that it's favorable because it's light. A Strength score of 11 means that you can only carry 38 lbs before you're encumbered. It's also cheap.
