I am making a Spell-less ranger and I am curious about if I don't choose Nature or investigation as a profciency, won't I get a bonus if I choose it from my Scout's Instincts ability or will I simply become proficient with it? - As stated below I need to choose two others, that leaves that I need to pick atleast investigation and nature.

My plan is to take Perception, Stealth and Survival, Perception.

SCOUT’S INSTINCTS At 3rd level, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any abilitycheck you make with any two of the following skills:Investigation, Nature, Perception, Stealth, and Survival. At 10th level you can choose another two skill proficiencies togain this benefit.

If you are proficient in the skills, your proficiency bonus is doubled for checks made for those skills. If you are not proficient with the skills, you don't add your proficiency bonus to checks for them anyway. Zero doubled is still zero.

In short: choosing skills with which you are not proficient to be affected by Scout's Instinct wastes the Scout's Instinct feature - unless, of course, you plan to be become proficient in those skills later.

I am getting a special bagground story with Acrobatics and Survival.

I am chooseing to be proficent with Perception, Stealth, Atheltics.

First time I choose instincts I probably choose Survival or Perception and Stealth probably. - Question is how do I get to be profienct with the two others? - Worst case I am going to cast my GM to get boost with one of my proficent abilities - It's abit sad its so narrowed down.

I think I may just ask if can get a bonus in another skill or somthing. - It's abit silly it forces you to take either Nature or Investigation or else you won't get the full extended of the ability unless you take a feat.
