Spell Point variation... Rolling for Spell Points.

I was thinking about using the spell point system (with the vitalizing variant) from UA for my next campaign, and I just had an interesting thought about it...

What if spell casters had a 'spell dice' that they'd roll to gain spell points each level in the same manner that you roll for hit points?

For example:

Paladins & Rangers*: (1d4 + Wis mod)/level
Bards: (1d6 + Cha mod)/level
Druids & Clerics: (1d8 + Wis mod)/level
Wizards: (1d10 + Int mod)/level
Sorcerers: (1d12 + Cha mod)/level

*Paladins and Rangers would not gain any spell points until 4th level.

So aside from the fact that two spellcasters with the same ability scores and same classes can feasibly have very different amounts of spell points, are there any other ramifications here?

It seems like it might be a reasonable way to get rid of the stupid charts that go along with spell points.
