Spell Resistance. How ?

I’m absolutely certain that this question has been asked and answered (possibly more than once) on these boards but, for the life of me, I can’t seem to find it.

What is the formula for calculating a creatures SR ?

Could someone please tell me or point me towards the relevant thread ?
Thanks.

There is no formula.

Not everythign has SR. IF it does, it will clearly list it's SR, or it's personal, private formula.

If no mention is made of SR ... then the creature doesn't have it.

There is no "Calculation" for a creature's SR... it either has it or it doesn't.

If you're talking about a Dragon, each dragon age group tells what the SR is. Monsters with SR detail what the SR of the monster is.

If you're talking races with classes, such as Drow, they tell you in the race description what the SR is... such as 10 +1 per level.

If you're talking about how you "Beat" SR on a creature... you roll a d20, add your caster level, and any spell penetration feat modifiers and there you go. It's just like hitting armor class, where your caster level is your BAB

I am sorely dissapointed !

One of the things that I really like about 3E is that everything (apperently not everything !) has a clear rationale to it. Now you tell me that they basically pulled the SR for various creatures out of a hat...

The reason I asked is that I want to design a template which would give SR (inter alias ) to creatures which don't have it.

Any suggestions ?

Well, the celestial and fiendish templates give SR = 2*HD (which is amusing but not particularly worthwhile on 1 HD creatures). Drow have SR 11+level IIRC. I'd suggest one of these approaches, possibly with slightly more or less SR for the drow-type based on how resistant you want the thing to be.

A SR of CR+11 will mean that roughly 50% of spells will bounce off the creature. If you want something that's only slightly resistant, you might want to give it SR = CR+6. If you want something that's highly resistant, try 16+CR.

is there any logical way to stack SR that is developed from differnt locations. what if u have a race that is spell resistant and a monk character. it seems to me that character whose race is somewhat resistant to magic would still have something to gain by training hismind to resist it more?
