I'm in good spirits today, so here is the armageddon device spell for you in all its glory. Note that magic in Dark Legacies is demonic, rooted in the Abyss, thus all spells require rare and/or morally questionable spell components. The AD spell is an extreme case. It also requires 8 people to cast, yet even with the benefit of cooperative casting, would be extremely difficult to cast using the Dark Legacies magic system, as it should be. Cheers. Armageddon Device [Fire] Availability: Lost Level: 9 Cooperative: 8 Components: V, M Strain: 9d4 nonlethal, 2d4 Int damage, 1d6 Str drain, 1d4 Wis drain; all casters involved suffer the full spellcasting strain Casting Time: 1 day Range: 100 miles Area: See text Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None The area of effect of the Armageddon Device is spectacular: a black glass crater 100 feet deep and 500 feet wide marks the center of the blast radius and everything within 1 mile is incinerated (1000d6 damage); everything out to 2 miles takes 100d6 damage; everything out to 5 miles takes 40d6 damage; and everything out to 7 miles takes 10d6 damage. Damage inflicted is half fire damage and half regular damage. The affected landscape becomes inert, never again spawning life. Material Component: The Armageddon Device is an actual construct that must be built. Only after it has been built and placed at the desired target is the rest of the spell cast. The casing of the device is a 3 ft. diameter perfect sphere formed out of pure gold (10,000 gp value), split into two haves. Within each sphere half is a central chasm intersected by eight spokes that connect it to an outer ring, which in turn is composed of smaller chasms connected by conduits. The still-beating heart of a newborn demon must be placed in the center chasm. In each of the outer chambers must be placed the heart of a child that was born to one of the casters. When the device has been built and the proper components inserted, the two halves are riveted shut. Additionally, the spell requires a smaller object (6 inch diameter) that exactly matches the Armageddon Device (500 gp value). Casting Process: Once placed, the Armageddon device can be detonated from 100 miles away. The casters stand in a circle around the smaller device, their position matching that of their children’s hearts in the sphere. As they continue to recite the spell’s invocations, both the ritual device and the actual Armageddon Device begin to generate heat and light. When the spell completes, the ritual device blinks out of existence. If the spell was successful, the Armageddon Device detonates to full effect. If it was cast to completion but failed, the device still explodes, but only deals 20d6 damage out to 500 feet. Copyright (C)2005 Red Spire Press and all that jazz...
