[Spells] Question about the Shatter spell

The description of the Shatter spell in 3.5 is:

"Shatter creates a loud, ringing noise that breaks brittle, nonmagical objects; sunders a single solid, nonmagical object; or damages a crystalline creature.

Used as an area attack, shatter destroys nonmagical objects of crystal, glass, ceramic, or porcelain. All such objects within a 5-foot radius of the point of origin are smashed into dozens of pieces by the spell. Objects weighing more than 1 pound per your level are not affected, but all other objects of the appropriate composition are shattered.

Alternatively, you can target shatter against a single solid object, regardless of composition, weighing up to 10 pounds per caster level.

Targeted against a crystalline creature (of any weight), shatter deals 1d6 points of sonic damage per caster level (maximum 10d6), with a Fortitude save for half damage."

One thing is does not specify is how it affects a "single solid object, regardless of composition". It DOES specifiy: "Saving Throw: Will negates (object); Will negates (object) or Fortitude half; see text"

So it looks like the object gets a Will save. But if it's just a regular weapon, what would the save be? I'm all corn-fused. Help! :)

No save if the object is unattended. If it's held, it get's the will save of the person who's holding it. This spell is remarkably useful for destroying weapons/armor/shields of low-level fighter types.

Does it define a size limit for the single, solid, non-magical object? I can think of some pretty large objects that could be shattered with the spell if it doesn't.

Cool, thanx. :)

No, it doesn't specify the size limit, it just specifies weight. Here's the whole entry straight from the SRD:

Components: V, S, M/DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action

Area or Target: 5-ft.-radius spread; or one solid object or one crystalline creature

Saving Throw: Will negates (object); Will negates (object) or Fortitude half; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes (object)

Shatter creates a loud, ringing noise that breaks brittle, nonmagical objects; sunders a single solid, nonmagical object; or
damages a crystalline creature.

5-foot radius of the point of origin are smashed into dozens of pieces by the spell. Objects weighing more than 1 pound per
your level are not affected, but all other objects of the appropriate composition are shattered.
Alternatively, you can target shatter against a single solid object, regardless of composition, weighing up to 10 pounds per
caster level. Targeted against a crystalline creature (of any weight), shatter deals 1d6 points of sonic damage per caster level
(maximum 10d6), with a Fortitude save for half damage.
Arcane Material Component: A chip of mica.

Is is the Wielder's Save or the best save between the Wielder's and the Item? Or is that just for Magic items?
If the item is nonmagical, it doesn't have a save of its own. You use the wielder's.

a quickened shatter and a well placed dispel magic are great for getting rid of those pesky magic weapons heroes keep finding. :-)
