Spellsword/metamagic feats

What are the rules for casting metamagic spells through your weapon? How about storing metamagic spells in your weopon with the spellsword cache ability?

Also, does anyone have any experience with playing a spellsword? Is it possible for one to be powerful?

Assuming you use the metamagic'ed spell level for the purposes of meeting the restrictions on the abilities, there would be nothing wrong with it. Thus an empowered chill touch would require Channel Spell III, since it takes up a 3rd level spell slot.

I have a question concerning the spellsword Prc (excuse this high-jacking of the thread.). Do they suffer arcane spell failure when they channel a spell?

Just wondering.

Tata.

Personally, I don't see why not. The class's ability to ignore armour is clearly defined by the inherrent ASF reductions.

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it... it is a free action. Which tends to imply not that the spell is cast without doing anything, but any activity required to cast it is incorporated into the attack style. So I'd say, no, they don't suffer ASF while chanelling.

The question could be extended to ask, must the caster make combat casting rolls - to this, I rule no, for the same reasons as those just mentioned.

Back to the original question, I agree with hong.

As to being too powerful - I don't think so. Admitedly, I haven't seen one played, but I do have a player looking into taking the class, so I had a close look myself.

Basically, BAB and spell progression are equivalent to alternating fighter and wizard (or sorcerer) levels.

The character loses the fighter and wizard bonus feats, but gains one back, plus a limited brew potion feat-equivalent ability.

That still leaves the character down about 5 feats. These are replaced with a moderate reduction in arcane spell failure, and the ability to cast a very limited number of spells as part of a melee attack (there are very few 1st to 3rd level spells that fit the "must specify a target" requirement).

I think the class is actually quite well balanced.

The Spellsword is the best way to use Quicken true strike and the Power Critical Feat (from MotW). That way, they can almost always crit (except maybe the 5% of the time against creatures with not ungodly AC).

The text for true strike states that the next attack made by the character recieves a +20. It does not target the creature attacked so the power crit/true stike combo would not work.
