I've been thinking of a game, kind of a Dope Wars meets Grand Theft Auto (I know that sounds irritating. I hate it when movie ads say things like "It's like Treasure Island meets Star Wars"). Anyways, it takes place in a crime-influenced Spencer City, where law is corrupt and you can only rely on yourself. The characters start off as small time dealers and crooks. After a police crackdown on some of the biggest names in the city, several openings show up and everyone has a shot of getting a high ranking position. The crime syndicates become more open minded and let the small timers take care of certain business, and this can either make them or break them. After a couple of jobs, they become promising. They might eventually run this city.
I ran a game like this a few months ago, using Don't Look Back rules. Now that d20 Modern is out, I'm considering the game again, this time a little more thought out, though. I had thought for a while of making it a sort-of d20 board game, with the city as the board and territories and such, kind of like a crime-filled version of Monopoly. Instead, though, I'd like to start it out as a 2nd level d20 Modern game. I'd create NPC ordinaries that give the missions, and the PCs would have the choice of which missions to do and which not to do. After a while, the missions will hint at ideas of things the PCs could do by themselves (My role-playing group have no sense of game direction). I still need to do a couple of things (Also, I don't think Spencer City is the best name for the city, but it's the best I could come up with half-asleep). Anyone have any suggestions?
