Stacking Metamagic

OK, I know you can't use the same metamagic on one spell twice, but you can use two different metamagic feats on the same spell....right?

How about an Extend Spell and a Sudden Extend??? Or any of the other 'Sudden" metamagic feats? Can you stack them??

I'd say no, as they are the same effects game-spirit-wise, but they are different feats, so you could make a case for it rules-wise, if you really wanted to.

Sure, why not?

While I do not DM currently, I think I'd allow more than one Metamagic feat on a spell. Imagine the fun created by an Enchanter in a crowd, watching a royal procession, and he casts a Stilled AND Silenced Dominate Person spell on the king!

That is supported by the rules anyway. You can however not apply the same effect with different feats to one spell, or at least it has no effect.

Sure, you can stack them. Stack them high! I'd disallow a feat and its Sudden version affecting the same spell, but I see nothing wrong with casting an Empowered, (sudden) Maximized Fireball as a level 5 spell. Just remember that only the main 10d6 is maximized, so it's 60+5d6, not 90.

My house rule on Sudden feats is that they work a number of times per day equal to 4 minus the number of levels the regular feat would add (min 1), but they require the regular feat as a prereq. For instance, Sudden Silent would work 3/day and require Sudden Spell.

Wow, someone is reading my mind, I was just wondering if double empowering was allowed a few minutes ago. Of course with the exception of empower, enlarge, and widen, doubling up wouldn't really help. Ooooh, it's a really silent spell. Oh yea, empower, and twin, ok most of them.
