I had picked up the 2-DVD set of Star Trek Nemesis, which includes a second disk of special features including a half-hour of deleted scenes. After watching them I have concluded that the movie could have easily been recut into a half-decent film. The director Stuart Biard clearly had no interest in the TNG characters and wanted to focus upon his villain. It's interesting as he worked as a film editor on a number of excellent sci-fi/fantasy/action films as well as two prior directing attempts (Executive Decision and US Marshals) but was clearly out of his element with Star Trek TNG, where he should have opted for more people scenes and one less action sequence. Deleted scenes included: A long sequence at the wedding reception where Wesley talks about looking forward to serving with Riker on the Titan. A scene after the wedding where Picard and Data share a glass of Picard wine and discuss life changes. Patrick Stuart introduces this segment and makes it clear that he felt it was crutial to the film that followed and should not have been removed. Several scenes between Picard and Beverly about her leaving to work at Star Fleet Medical, including a scene at the end of them talking via subspace and her telling him to "Save the last dance for me" A great scene following Data's death of Geordi and Worf cleaning out Data's personal effects and Data's cat Spot deciding that he was now Worf's. Worf: "I'm not a cat person." Geordi "It looks like you are now." An excellent final five-minute conclusion to the movie, that stats with Riker's departure with him pulling a practical joke on the newly assigned First Officer. Picard then tries out his new Captain's chair which include a retractible seat belt - his comment "It's about time". The Enterprise then gets their next assignment - to a system "Where no one has gone before" and then flies off in a long shot with the Star Trek TNG theme music in the background.
