Star Wars Aliens - more depth, please?

One change that I'd like to see with the upcoming continuation of Star Wars is to add some more depth to them. What do we really know about them? Sure, there's a tid-bit here and a tid-bit there. Jawas are junk scavengers. And, they're short. And, they have a funny language. And, that's about all we know about them.

We don't even know what they really look like--what's under those robes? Are those glowing eyes some sort of device? Or, is that electric shine generated by their organic eyes?

The Tusken Raiders. Yeah, they are tribal. Are they human, wrapped in fearsome clothes? Are they some other race? What do they really look like? What are their customs?

The Mon Calamari. They tend to favor lobsters, and they come from a water planet. We know they make big, bulbous capital starships. But, what else? What about their history? Are they water breathers as well as air breathers? What's their culture like?

Star Wars aliens are, for the most part, nothing more than interesting, and sometimes downright silly, looking creatures. Most often, that's all we know about them. I think the RPGs are probably the best source for more depth on each alien, but the books and comics (and I've read several of each) don't seem to go into much detail.

I'd like to see that change a bit. I doubt it will happen, but I'd like some more depth on the aliens presented in the universe.

Let's see what will happen with the upcoming movies.

Perhaos ironically, one of the consequences of the canon cull is that we're actually losing a lot of the depth that does exist. The EU actually did a lot to flesh out several of the species - the Jawa scent-based language, the multiple Quarren subspecies, lots of Wookiee and Mandalorian stuff, etc. Even the details of Chewie's life debt are entirely EU in origin.

And it's highly unlikely that the new movies will address any of these things in anything like the same depth. If they were to do a TV series then they might have time to do it (as Trek did with Klingons in TNG and DS9), but movies just don't have time to do much.

All of the races had a pretty decent history fleshed out in the RPG books by West End Games. There was at least a page, if not two, on each race. These books formed the canon/bible basis for all the novels up until the prequels.
