I wonder if they tried to sell these books previously, and found out that no cared about some stupid rpg books. Why waste money on that stuff, when you can spend money on something that sits on a shelf for all eternity?!

Interestingly, one of the fan films was a not-quite tongue in cheek parody of Fight Club called Figure Club. It was all about taking your figures down off the shelf, out of the packages and playing with them.

I am really of two minds about collecting action figures. On the one hand, I think the obsession with packaging and package quality are just crazy. On the other, I have put together little collections of some of my favorite characters that I do keep on shelves. I have accumulated a pretty sizable collection of Iron Man, Captain America and R2 figures and my wife has a pretty good Chewbacca collection. And we have some LOTR figures and a few scattered superheroes around the house that are "untouchable." But none of these are mint (at least not intentionally) and for the most part, we have removed the packaging.

Before my son was born, I had quite the collection of Marvel and DC Comics action figures, which I had spread out all over the house (not in packages.) Except for a small handful, I gave those to him to play with.

I mean, they give me some pleasure to look at them, but I don't consider them any sort of investment, need to have a "complete" collection or worry over their condition.
