Star Wars D20: Force Grip Question..

Bodah

First Post
In the RCR for Star Wars d20 force grip does '3d6 phyiscal' damage to a target on a failed save, and half on a sucessful one.. now my question is this.. Wound or Vitality damage in this case? Its assumed its vitality I'm pretty sure, even with the 'physical' description, I think thats just there to point out that its physical damage and not energy or something like that. I dont think it means wound damage by saying physical.. However I could be wrong. Thats the first point of confusion with the power.. the next is common sense. Its semi believable that choking someone with force grip would result in vitality damage, because they are effectively gasping for air (trying to avoid the effects of the power, using energy, therefore VP) however.. When applying the power to the heart or a similar organ it seems even more like Wound point damage and less like vitality point damage.

Is there an official ruling on this anywhere? Also, what is everyone elses thoughts about this.. Have any of you house ruled it or anything like that? I'm thinking of house ruling it to do wound point damage, however that potentially makes it a very powerful power. Another choice I am thinking is simply using the old version of force grip, which seems to be a good middle ground.

I remembered reading this in JD Wiker's Jedi Counseling column on the official SW site:

Q: Speaking of "physical" damage, Force Grip says that it inflicts physical damage. In the original Star Wars core rulebook, Force Grip inflicted wound damage unless the target made a Fortitude save. Does "physical damage" mean "wound damage?"

A: No. "Physical," in the Star Wars rules, is the opposite of "energy." So that note is telling you that the damage from Force Grip can't be dissipated by Dissipate Energy, for example.

Hope that helps.

Basically, it doesn't do wound points until vitality is exhausted. So you can't grasp and destroy an organ immediately, first you gently squeeze for a few rounds.

Also, remember that regular Star Wars grunts don't have any vitality.
