That's enough damage to destroy most capical ships in a single blast (with the exception of super-sized ships like the Eclipse), but is also about as much damage a 5 strikes with a lightsaber.
Unfortunately, it seems that my Imperial Sourcebook and Dark Empire Sourcebook are AWOL (Word to the wise: if your fiancee moves into your one bedroom apartment, don't expect to be able to see the carpet again). I did find my Jedi Academy Sourcebook (which is kinda depressing) and standard rules book, though. The prototype Death Star (from the Maw installation) did 6d6 Death Star scale damage, and could recharge 2d6 worth of laser power per hour (it could fire partial blasts, like the second Death Star could ). IIRC, the prototype was about half as powerful as the first Death Star, so I would assume that one could do about 12d6 damage and probably took a full day to recharge. The prototype Death Star has a range of 90, which means it more or less has to be in orbit of a planet to hit it. One thing to keep in mind is that in SW 2e, damage scaled in an additive manner (one of the really stupid things about 2e, IMO). Death Star scale is +24d6, so the laser would do the equivalent of 30d6 damage on the personal scale, or 18d6 damage on the capital ship scale. That's enough damage to destroy most capical ships in a single blast (with the exception of super-sized ships like the Eclipse), but is also about as much damage a 5 strikes with a lightsaber. Go figure. I believe SW d20 has some more advanced conversion for this type of thing. I'll keep digging around to see if I can find my other books.
