Phil,

Great review! I'm sold! ;)

One point of concern (for me), though, is that the Guide includes notes on Force Spirits. Are these the same notes included in the Power of the Jedi sourcebook (the one I recently bought)?

Though, even if they are, the Archetypes sound too cool to miss out on. :)

So my next question is: was yours an advance copy or can I go out and buy this now?

I'm going to a conention this weekend, and I'd love to pick this up there.

Thanks again.

I don't have Power of the Jedi so I'm not sure about the Force Spirits.

The book was direct from WotC but I think it's in stores now (the letter with the book stated a release date of the 6th).

What I'd really like to see if a version of the rules for factions and archetypes released as OGC. If anyone knows of such rules already existing in OGC please let me know.

OK, I did a little digging around and it looks like this book got released on June 5th or thereabouts.

That's good news. :)

Nice review, this is my favorite Star Wars book that has come out. I really liked the factions, I only wish this book had come out earlier so I could have incorprated them sooner. Many adventure ideas popped into my head just be reading the factions section of the book.

Exactly what I was thinking. I think a Book of Factions that expands on the material presented here would be an excellent tool.

Short Review: Cool book. The factions are very well done and a great tool for creating adventures.

It is a cool book, but I think the last thing this book is good for is creating adventures. This book is a hard-core rules book, plain and simple. If you want lots of skills, feats, prestige classes, and other rules-related materials for making your character more powerful, or more interesting, then this is the book for you.

If I had to compare this book to any other roleplaying book, I would compare it to Unearthed Arcana for 1st edition D&D.
