Hey everyone,

I'm trying to build some ships for the upcoming game and would like some help with the rules around ship building (I have Starships of the Galaxy, RCR, and just about every book).


ION cannon emplacement point costs seem quite low. That said, it doesn't list their damage in SotG. Can someone help me with the ION cannon information? Is there a revision/update to the weapons table?

Also - ION damage... If a starship hits another starship with 5 ION cannon shots in 1 round. Each shot is rolled individually for damage, and the highest amount of one of the shots (minus DR of course) is what the repair DC is based on? You wouldn't add it all together, or force the character to roll a seperate repair check for each shot and its corresponding DC???

Ah, my first post here. :D

Emplacement point costs are indeed that low. I think the designers were factoring in the lethality of the weapon, and since ion damage can be overcome so quickly -- low cost.

Light ion canons do 3d10x2, medium 5d10x2, heavy 8d10x2. Was a printing error which they covered in a Jedi Counseling article #2 at SW RPG section of the Wizards of the Coast site.

I've always summed the ion damage to determine overall damage. Then on the targets turn someone must make the repair check as a full round action, according to Jedi Counseling #2.

I'd recommend going to the Wizard's site and reviewing the Jedi Counseling articles relating to topics you have difficult with. They also have all of the extensive FAQs and Errata covering many questions you might ask in the future.

These were last updated on 04/13/2006, and Gary is planning on doing an update to cover everything from Jedi Counseling 1 to 100, which last I heard was going to take place once he's finished his editorial work on the new Sage Edition Core Rulebook.

I do have one question, however.

Since heavy ion cannons are designed for capital ships, shouldn't they be x5 and not x2 for damage multiplier?

Since they dont effect hull points, I dont think they need to to scale like standard weapons. Ion damage effects all ships equally, the big ships just poor out more debilitation per shot.
