I'm just theorizing here, but maybe it would be easier to shift the expected plot-line of the 2e adventure towards where it seems to be heading now rather than redo the begining "right"? I'm saying this because- well. The Gand wasn't too hot about leaving aside his/her Infinity-Gate-undathomiring project, initially, but the plot as is has actually done a remarkably good job of giving him/her strong motivation to care: raising quick creds to buy that digging droid (to get to the Infinity Gate, of course. And can't raise money quickly on a backwater like Dathomir), and now burning curiosity about those (possible) artifacts in the assassin's mysterious hidden safe-houses. From there, PC's love to stick their fingers into the gears and get dragged along by vengeange and/or "justice" and/or taking over the bag guy's operation (to turn those ressources to *good*, of course!)! I think the drag in the last bit occured mostly because of the hostage situation? Honestly, I haven't seen a single one of those turn out quite right in RP... I think it may be because it's a very visceral thing - seeing a 'gun' pointed at an innocent's face - and taking action against the hostage-taker means endangering not only the hostage(s) themselves but, almost by definition, also willfully putting the other PCs in harm's way? We should probably have discussed it here and settled on a general strategy as a group (resist or go along) *before* diving into the IC?
