Stargate SG-20 (speculation?)

Anyone have any guesses who might be doing the Stargate D20 book, assuming this is a real project?

I'm guessing it's between Alderac (who did a marvelous job with Farscape, but may be looking for a strong license that dosn't require extensive rechecking) and Pagan Publishing. John Tynes previously did the D6 System version of Stargate SG-1 for WEG before they went into financial limbo.

Anyone have any better guesses?

See as how Tynes was a former WotC employee and AEG and WotC have always been pretty tight, it is possible that it's Tynes working as freelancer for AEG.

This is even more probable seeing that AEG works like a comic book company in that even AEG's regular talent works from home like a freelancer.

So then if Tynes had the connections or if Showtime's company liked Tynes previous work then all he would need is to have some buddies at AEG promise to publish it.

I highly doubt John Tynes will have anything to do with this. He's made no secret that he believes the upcoming second edition of Unknown Armies will be his swan song in the industry. He has his hands full and then some with the Delta Green computer game right now.

He does fairly regular updates on his blog http://www.johntynes.com/dispatches.php and he sounds too busy as it is. Plus, given comments he's made before, I dont think he cares much for d20 at all.

Too bad. But at least with the layoffs of several longtime, highly paid notable employees, Wizards will have the money needed to outbid other RPG companies for the right to publish Stargate RPG product line.

That is a good thing, right? :p

Actually, I think John Tynes stopped working for WotC full time a long time ago, I thought he was a free-lancer on CoC d20?

Any way, would d20 suit Stargate? Possibly, although I rather like Andy Slacks GURPS take (in as much as I like any GURPS). I think the best people to do a d20 SG-1 based game (leaving aside the problems they have had getting T20 out the door) would be Quick Link Interactive. From what I have seen of the T20 rules, a lot would port well to an SG-1 game, and the underlying thinking behind the T20 design seems a good fit for SG-1.

But in reality doing a Stargate SG-1 Core book and couple of supplements does rather fit the current WotC business model, doesn't it? And they missed out on the Farscape license, so Stargate SG-1 and Andromeda are the next logical choices for a "Splash" SF project other than Star Wars...

As a T20 playtester, I can more or less vouch that the system works fairly well for running Stargate games. I did run a one off Stargate game using the playtest rules with some variations, and it worked well enough.

The Prior History rules especially fit the style of characters you run into in Stargate, and really in most TV sci-fi shows. I don't know if those concepts will be designated as open game content or not, though.
