If you want to go soldier, you could certainly be a marine, or Army specialist. With the languages, I'd go for a lot of things that might seem obscure. Ancient Egyptian, for one. Maybe even a few things like Viteliu..Basically, take stuff so that when I send to you an X-derived planet, you have a decent chance of being able to speak with them.
