[QUOTE="Orius, post: 5006310, member: 8863"] Just kind of joking about how some people don't like the dentist. I tend to think in many strange and twisted ways; it helps me a lot when I'm DMing. Yeah, I suspect the same thing. Stargate has always had a military vs. scientist theme going, kind of a throwback to classic American sci-fi I guess. There were elements of it in SG-1 with Jack and Daniel, and Atlantis played it for humor with McKay and Zelenka. Here, it's more serious, because the scientists seem unwilling to follow orders, yet it was a Rush, a scientist, who's responsible for getting everyone into this mess. Also, because survival is still very much an issue here, people can't really go and do whatever they feel like, because it can endanger everyone's survival, so you need people who are giving orders and everyone else needs to obey. I don't think Wray needs to pull a coup, because having some shared authority with Young would be just as good. The two of them have already worked together in previous episodes on things like assigning tasks and stuff. And I can hear Sheppard yelling, "Dammit, McKay!" again. :) I don't know just how competant Eli is, but he's also the only one that Rush wants to work with. Rush doesn't seem to like the other scientists at all. Maybe the others aren't really all that knowledgable about Ancient tech either, but personality conflicts seems to be the bigger issue. And Eli really doesn't have any sort of speciality beyond whatever skills he has with mathematics, so he's kind of a blank slate, and he seems to be pretty interested in the Ancient tech too.
